Transfer Services' FAQs

  • Reverse Transfer: A credit review of degree-seeking students who transferred from a PA community college to a four-year Pennsylvania State System University without earning their associate degree. Credits earned while working toward their Bachelor's degree will be sent to the PA Community College for evaluation for possible credit towards completing the associate degree requirements. PA's State System of Higher Education Universities and the 14 Pennsylvania Community Colleges have a signed and executed statewide Reverse Transfer Agreement. Please check the dropdown menu for participating schools.

  • Program to Program (P2P): Refers to a Pennsylvania statewide program to major program articulation agreement that provides a clear transfer pathway into a State System university for community college students selected a transferable major program. Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees that are part of the P2P articulation contain a minimum of 30 hours of liberal arts among the following six fields of study: Composition, Public Speaking, Humanities & Arts, Behavioral/Social Sciences, Sciences, and Mathematics, and 21 credits of major program coursework. Universities may designate additional programs as a precursor or parallel programs because of the articulation agreement, similarity in disciplinary content, or student outcomes, as indicated by the 4-digit CIP code.

  • Dual Admissions: HACC has developed dual admissions transfer partnerships with area colleges and universities. These partnerships are designed to help students seamlessly transfer to these colleges with junior standing after completing an appropriate associate degree here. Support and financial incentives, including scholarship opportunities, are built-in to give you the best chance for success.

  • Core-to-Core: With these agreements, the approved associate degree programs are accepted because the general education requirements meet the core requirements of the transfer college's curriculum. If you earn an appropriate associate degree, usually an Associate in Arts or an Associate in Science, the core requirements of the transfer college are satisfied except for the core courses required by the intended major (and in some cases, the conditions that reflect the specific values of the transfer college, for example, religion or foreign language courses).

Your HACC courses must meet your transfer institution's requirements. To plan a successful transfer, you should:

  • Select your specific transfer college as soon as possible.
  • Choose a transfer curriculum.
  • Work with your advisor to select required transfer courses.
  • Review HACC's transfer information. This includes transfer checksheets, comprehensive transfer notebooks, course equivalencies, transfer agreements, college directories and catalogs.

Visit Transfer Agreements for transfer process details and types of articulations.

You can transfer at any time; however, consider completing your degree at HACC first. Transferring with an associate degree provides advance standing at a 4-year institution and also makes it more likely that you will be successful in your quest for a baccalaureate degree. Remember that before transferring, you must apply to and be accepted at the 4-year destination.

Your transfer institution may not accept the transfer credits that HACC did. HACC's transfer credit decisions do not reflect the decision of any other institution.

You will need to send official transcripts when you apply for transfer. These transcripts must include all coursework from schools you previously attended.

Articulation agreements determine how credit is transferred into HACC or another institution.

Reverse transfer is a credit review of degree-seeking students who transferred from a community college to a four-year transfer partner (state or private) without earning their associate degree. Credits earned while working toward their bachelor's degree will be sent to HACC for evaluation for possible credit towards completing the associate degree requirements. Reverse Transfer - National Student Clearinghouse.

Benefits to Students:

A dual-admission agreement is a cooperative partnership between HACC and a four-year college or university. It is for students interested in pursuing a bachelor degree. This agreement will:

  • Facilitate your admission process
  • Transfer your associate degree credits into a bachelor degree program
  • Help ensure you do not lose any time or money

We have over 10 colleges and universities you can choose from for a dual-admission agreement.

Yes, HACC forms local, preferred partner transfer agreements with many Central Pennsylvania colleges and universities, but students have the option to transfer to other institutions as well.
