The Faculty Organization is established on the premise that the faculty should be consulted in matters pertaining to college governance before final decisions are made so that the faculty become active participants in the overall development of college policy.
The basic functions of the Faculty Organization are…
- To foster the conditions which encourage the creative capacities of the members of the academic community
- To promote high academic standards
- To foster cooperation among its members and among the college community at large
- To advance the welfare of the college and the faculty, and to support the aims of the college in the community it serves
These functions are performed by a community of scholars and educators who must be free to exercise independent judgment in the planning and execution of their professional responsibilities. The government of an institution of higher education should be designed to allow such a community of scholars and educators to carry out its responsibilities according to democratic process.
To promote and maintain the conditions in which all members of the Faculty Organization regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, ancestry, non-job-related handicap, place of birth, General Education Development Certificate (GED), marital status, sexual preference/orientation, or veteran status can fulfill their professional responsibilities to their best ability: The Faculty Organization will continually seek ways to improve all components of the learning environment and to maintain competitive salaries and opportunities for professional advancement. It will seek to represent the interests of the faculty in all other matters pertaining to faculty welfare.
