The total number of college credits to earn an Associate degree—61 credits--is the same for Honors and non-Honors students. The critical difference is in the depth and content of the four required Honors courses. Three (or more) of the four required courses may be chosen from Honors sections of the basic college requirements listed below. All Honors students must complete the Honors Seminar, a broad interdisciplinary course with rotating topics, offered every spring semester. To complete the program successfully, students must earn a B or better in all Honors courses.
- Honors English Composition (English 101, English 102)
- Honors Speech
- Honors Core A (Humanities, Philosophy, Arts, Literature, Mass Communications)
- Honors Core B (History, Psychology, Sociology)
- Honors Core C (Mathematics and Science)
- Honors electives and general education requirements
- Honors Seminar (an interdisciplinary course, taken only after at least two other Honors courses have been completed, involving a strong research component. May be team-taught)
Honors Core courses are offered every semester. Honors students should work closely with their advisor or with the Director of the Honors Program in planning their schedules.
Qualified students may take individual Honors classes without joining the full program, but must follow the same application procedure as Honors Scholars
Students must complete Honors classes with a grade of A or B in order to remain in the program. Those who do not must reapply and/or receive special permission to continue in the Honors Program.
