English 101: Composition I
Practice in writing clear, forceful, and effective prose. Principles of the writing process are put into a variety of contexts. 3 credits.

English 201: Major English Writers I
Representative works of British literature from the Middle Ages through the Restoration and Eighteenth Century. Prerequisite: eligibility for English 101. (Core A) 3 credits

English 203: Major American Writers I
Texts from the earliest period through 1865. Typical writers discussed include Edwards, Hawthorne, Poe, Douglass and Dickinson. Prerequisite: eligibility for English 101. (Core A) 3 credits

Geology 101: Physical Geology
A study of the earth and of the physical processes which alter and shape its surface. Laboratory includes field trips in the vicinity of Harrisburg, the identification of common rocks and minerals, and the study and interpretation of topographic and geologic maps. (Core C) credits

History 101: World History I
An overview of the historical development and interrelationships of the civilization of Asia, Africa, Latin America and eastern and Western Europe. An examination of the political, economic, social and cultural themes from the earliest eras to 1715 included. Important ideas, significant persons, and world views are described in the context of each civilization. (Core B) 3 credits

History 220: Pennsylvania German History and Culture
An examination of the German settlement of Pennsylvania and its impact on life and culture in the state. Topics include the history of religious groups, customs and beliefs, material culture and folklife. 3 credits

Humanities 101: Modern Culture and the Arts
An introduction to the humanities on a global basis, emphasizing the visual and performing arts. The student will investigate the impact of the arts on the individual and society. Relationships between cultural values, the arts and everyday life are considered. (Core A) 3 credits.

Humanities 201: World Mythology
Myths of diverse cultures are explored for their distinctive meanings and cross-cultural insights. Universal and individual themes and images are analyzed, including creation, fertility, rebirth, and hero myths. (Core A) 3 credits

Humanities 282: Colloquium on War
The subject of war is investigated from multiple disciplinary points of view. The Honors Faculty collaborates on this colloquium. 3 credits

Math 111: Principles of Mathematics
Conceptual treatment of number theory, modern algebra, geometry, and the fundaments of logic are explored in historical context. This course meets math transfer requirements in majors other than mathematics, physical science, or engineering. (Core C) 3 credits

Philosophy 200: Comparative Religion
The central beliefs of major world religions and the varieties of religious experiences are explored to determine their similarities and differences. (Core A) 3 credits.

Philosophy 215: Philosophy of Science
The impact of science and technology on contemporary society is examined. It is an investigation into the methods, laws, assumptions, theories, and structures of the scientific processes of discovery, hypothesis, testing, and proof. (Core A) 3 credits.

Philosophy 225: Ethics: Belief and Action
Everyday moral problems are investigated through the insights of Aristotle, Kant, Mill, Sartre and other philosophers to help students form their own philosophies of life. (Core A) 3 credits

Philosophy 282: Environmental Ethics
An exploration of central theories, concepts and world views relating human moral concerns to nonhuman animals, plants, and the wider biosphere. (Core C) 3 credits.

Psychology 101: Intro to Psychology
Examination of basic concepts of human psychology, including perceptions, learning, emotion, intelligence, motivation, and personality. (Core B) 3 credits.
