CULTURAL AWARENESS WORKSHOPS IN April, May and June. 
Working in partnership with the United Way of the Capital Region (UWCR), join the Center for Global Education in learning to more effectively interact with individuals from other cultures.
Workshops will be held:
    ~ April 7th - Mexican Culture
    ~ May 5th - Moroccan Culture
    ~ June 2nd - Culture of Islam

MARCH IS WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH! 
Join us for a film series on Mondays in the International Room of the Cooper Student Center, 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.  Also taking place on campus:  Honors Lecture Series~Reading the Colors: An Overview of African American Quilt Culture, presented by Patricia A. Turner, PhD, University of California-Davis on Wednesday, 3-24-2010 in Cooper 204; Women's Issues Reading Group meets Wednesdays 12n - 1:00 p.m. in Whitaker 123.  Also look for a display of posters  throughout the campus as well as a display of information and books in the McCormick Library!  See flyer here.

EVENT RESCHEDULED FOR WEDNESDAY, MARCH 24, 2010. YOU ARE INVITED TO A "MARRIAGE EQUALITY" DEBATE/DISCUSSION FEATURING STATE SENATOR DAYLIN LEACH, the sponsor of PA SB 935 for marriage equality, AND MAGGIE GALLAGHER, the President of the National Organization for Marriage.  This event is free and open to the public and will be held in the International Room of the Cooper Student Center on the Harrisburg Campus Wednesday, March 24th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 PM.   The first 30-40 minutes will feature a debate, moderated by Scott Detrow from WITF, between State Senator Leach and Ms. Gallagher.  The second 30-40 minutes will feature a question and answer discussion facilitated by HACC's Senior Professor of English Trum Simmons.   Please join us for a thoughtful, in-depth discussion on this timely topic.  Feel free to contact HACC Allies co-advisors Trum Simmons (tlsimmon@hacc.edu) or Amy Withrow (aswithro@hacc.edu) for more information.  Sponsored by HACC Allies and HACC Center for Global Education.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE CENTER FOR GLOBAL EDUCATION & INTERNATIONAL FLAG CEREMONY - Tuesday, January 26 @ 12:30 p.m. in the International Room of the Cooper Student Center.  You are invited to attend the opening of HACC's Center for Global Education with remarks by Michael Sandy, Director - Center for Global Education; Dr. Edna Baehre, President - Harrisburg Area Community College; Prof. Kazim Dharsi; and Sean Fortney, SGA President - Harrisburg Campus; followed by a presentation of international flags with remarks by Jennifer Daley, Coordinator - International Student Services.  Refreshments will follow.

DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS - PRESENTED BY NICOLE PARKER.  LECTURE Friday, January 22, 2010, 12:00 noon in Arts 103, Harrisburg Campus.  In partnership with the Honors Program, you are cordially invited to take part in this special presentation.  Nicole Parker, Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) spent several years as a logistics and administrative specialist/field worker with MSF.  She will give a presentation about her work in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (a war zone) and in Niger where she worked on HIV and TB programs as well as malnutrition projects.  A Q&A session will follow.  Feel free to bring your lunch!  Light refreshments will be provided.  This event is FREE and open to the public!  See flyer for details (.pdf).

 
THIS IS NOT CUBA - Images by Colette Gaiter, January 13-February 5, 2010.  LECTURE Thursday, January 21, 12:00 noon in Whitaker Hall 214 w/ reception following in the Rose Lehrman Arts Center.  Gallery hours:  Monday-Friday, 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday, 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.  In partnership with the Rose Lehrman Arts Center - join us in celebrating the works of Colette Gaiter.  Colette Gaiter - a new media artist and graphic designer - is an associate professor in the Art Department at the University of Delaware.  Working with computers since 1982, Gaiter uses a range of digital media to create environments for exploring/exploding personal and collective myths.  She is especially interested in the American 1960s - a time of turbulence, hope and change played out in mass media.  Events are free and open to the public!  
 
2nd MULTICULTURAL CELEBRATIONS & JOYFUL TRADITIONS LUNCHEON - December 17, 2009, 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. International Room of the Cooper Student Center.  For the second year in a row the Office of International Education & Multicultural Affairs is partnering with the Dauphin County Commissioners and the Dauphin County Diversity Forum to "AFFIRM OUR SIMILARITIES AND CELEBRATE OUR DIFFERENCES".  For more information see the flyer here.
