Emergency Procedures

An evaluation has been made of the possible emergency situations that could arise, including those in which the closing and evacuation of the campuses would be required. These situations include fire, gas leaks, bomb threats, tornadoes, earthquakes, aircraft accidents, hazardous materials spills on or near the campus, power outages, flooding, snow emergencies, medical emergencies, and an incident at Three Mile Island. The extent of and manner in which the evacuation would be conducted would depend on the particular incident, the immediate impact on life safety and the availability of evacuation routes from the campus.

In the event of an emergency, we will assist with the evacuation of buildings and the campus, including the provision of directions and traffic control. Should the emergency be life threatening, assistance will also be sought from outside public safety agencies, including police, fire, medical, and emergency management agencies. In the event of any evacuation, we will notify the campus community via telephone, e-mail, loudspeaker announcement, and direct notification.

We ask that members of the campus community become familiar with the buildings in which they attend classes or work. Know the evacuation route as posted in the buildings and the location of emergency alarms, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits.
