Introduction
Supplemental Instruction is an academic success program designed to assist students in traditionally difficult academic courses. Students master the content of the course while they develop and integrate learning and study strategies. Peer collaborative learning is stressed with students learning together from one another. In addition to increasing course knowledge, students get to know other students in the class in a casual atmosphere.
SI leaders are students who have taken the course before and sit in on the class again. They are required to hold 3 SI sessions a week. The sessions are free and participation is voluntary. However, students who regularly take part in the sessions perform better than the students who do not attend SI sessions. Statistics show that students who participate end the course earning from 1/2-1 full letter grade higher than those students who choose not to participate. This could mean the difference between a B or an A, or it could be the difference between passing and failing. All students at all levels of ability are encouraged to attend. What a great way to spend an hour! For more information, contact Elisa Cohen at 780-3203 or Linda Barr at 780-2483.
