Additional Services

Free Tutoring

HACC is dedicated to helping students meet their career and educational goals. For this reason, the Center for Academic Success provides free tutorial services and workshops in academic skills development on a walk-in, scheduled, or referral basis. The center is staffed with professional and peer tutors who assist students seeking to improve their skills in reading, writing, accounting, math computation, problem solving, science, computer literacy, speech and academic success. Tutorial sessions may be arranged for those who require assistance in social sciences, Spanish, etc. Make this a must stop on your agenda whether you are visiting or taking classes. Weekday, evening and Saturday hours are offered while classes are in session.

KEYS (Keystone Education Yields Success) Program

KEYS is a collaborative effort between the PA Department of Public Welfare and the PA Commission for Community Colleges. There is a KEYS Program at each of PA’s 14 community colleges.

The KEYS Program provides on campus support to persons receiving TANF and enrolled at the college. The goal is to provide the services and individualized supports necessary to assist students in completing their academic program. The long term goal for each student is to become competitively employed and self sufficient. A KEYS Student Facilitator, based at each campus within the college, helps students identify barriers to academic success and ways to overcome them. Students are referred by their County Assistance Office. Please speak with your caseworker about the KEYS Program or call the HACC KEYS Coordinator at 717-780-1181.

English as a Second Language (ESL)

HACC’s college-level English as a Second Language (ESL) program is designed to help those in our community who speak other languages develop the English skills they need to prepare for college-level studies. Adults with no English skills are encouraged to begin their studies at a local community agency or high school that offers entry-level ESL training.

ESL placement testing helps students by identifying the best place for them to start.  HACC offers four levels of ESL classes.  Students will be placed in the appropriate ESL course based on their ESL test results.  ESL courses can be taken to improve workplace English skills, or the entire program can be completed in preparation for college-level study.
