How to File for Benefits

The following is a guide to the basic paperwork needed to initiate educational benefits. Contact the Military and Veterans Affairs Office (MVAO) at the campus where you wish to attend for detailed information on the application process. Once you have completed the initial paperwork to apply for your benefits, you only need to complete and submit a Veterans Benefits Request Form each semester when you register for classes. The Veterans Benefits Request Form is available from the MVAO on each campus.

 A Brief Guide to Paperwork needed to start VA Benefits

1)      Chapter 30 (Montgomery G. I. Bill)

a)      Never Applied for Benefits

i)        VA Form 22-1990

ii)      DD Form 214 (Record of Discharge)(Copy only)

iii)    "Kicker" documentation

iv)    Cash Collection Voucher (if lump sum payment was made)

v)      Veterans Benefits Request Form

b)      Previously Used Benefits

i)        VA Form 22-1995

ii)      Veterans Benefits Request Form

c)      Each Subsequent Semester

i)        Veterans Benefits Request Form

 

2)      Chapter 33 (Post 9/11 G. I. Bill)

a)      Never Applied for Benefits
