What is a CRN?

Each class offering of any course has its own unique identification number.

This is referred to as the CRN (or Course Reference Number). Typically, the CRN consists of 5 digits for Spring or Fall semesters and 4 digits for summer semesters.

For example, you might register for a fall section of an online Accounting 101 course which has a CRN of 20001.

Important Information: please read all proctor qualifications before downloading the form.
If you are unable to take your examination(s) at any of HACC's regional campuses or locations, you must arrange to have your examination(s) supervised by an appropriate proctor. Qualifications of the proctor must accompany the Test Proctoring Form. Suitable proctors are listed below:

1. A teaching faculty, an educational administrator or a staff member of a college test center of any University, College or Community College.

2. A staff member of Professional testing centers – e.g., Sylvan

3. A public librarian.

4. For personnel of the armed forces, any commissioned officer of higher rank than the student, a noncommissioned officer – e.g. 1st Sergeant or Master Sergeant, an education officer or specialist, or a base librarian.

Note: Friends, relatives, neighbors and direct supervisors of the student are NOT permitted to proctor the examinations.
Arranging for a Proctored Examination

1. Contact a qualified person at a University, College, Community College, professional testing center, public library or military base, ask him or her to proctor your examination. If the person agrees, arrange a date, time and place for the exam. YOU must pay any expenses involved, including postage to return exam or fax charges.

2. Complete the information required on the Test Proctoring Form and have the proctor sign it. Mail or fax to the Virtual Campus Office (717) 909-1493.

3. The instructor may approve or disapprove the proposal based upon the instructor’s assessment of the request. You will be notified by the Virtual Campus Office if the proctor is approved.

4. Once your request is approved, the exam(s) and instructions will be mailed to the proctor at the location specified in #1. No exams shall be sent to the proctor’s home address. It is the student’s responsibility to set up a date and time with the proctor.

5. Exams must be received in the Virtual Campus Office by the date marked on the Off-Site Proctor Instruction Sheet. Notify the instructor and the proctor promptly if you cannot take a scheduled exam.
