This site was created so that you could learn about
our course offerings and the requirements for taking an Associate
of Arts degree. We hope that by exploring these pages you will better
understand why we believe our Theatre Program is one of the best available
to explore the many options you have as a student who is interested
in the various concentrations of theatre.
Whether you would like to enroll in a few classes,
or major in Theatre at HACC, you will find courses that address
a variety of interests. Our classes in performance include training
in several levels of Acting, Voice, Dialects, Movement, Directing
and Musical Theatre. Courses with a technical concentration include
Scenography, Costuming, Makeup, and Lighting. Further studies include
theatre history and Shakespeare, and each semester students are
given the opportunity to participate in master classes with visiting
Guest Artists. Our students gain valuable hands-on training by interning
with various theatres in the Harrisburg area. In addition, student
employment possibilities are offered backstage and front of house
to compliment your theatre training, and students are regularly
employed as Assistant Teachers with our Theatre for Young People
program.
Our theatre program produces four productions each
year, one of which tours professionally to local schools. All productions
are directed and executed by a team of professionals in their respective
fields, and our students receive hands on training by constructing
the visual elements required by the individual designs. We take
pride in the quality of our productions and course offerings and
the competitive nature of our program. Our commitment to excellence
as a program and college requires all theatre faculty
to hold advanced degrees and teaching experience in the
discipline of theatre. This also applies to our guest directors,
and technical designers within the field.
As a smaller program, our students are extended enormous
opportunities to gain valuable experiences not often afforded by
larger programs of the same scope. If you are a student who is planning
on transferring to a Bachelor’s program or conservatory, you
will find that our theatre program provides an excellent foundation
for your training.
So, please, visit our pages within this web site and
see what we have to offer. Enroll now, because many of our classes
fill quickly! And should you have any questions, don’t hesitate
to contact one of us—our faculty and staff would be happy
to arrange a tour of our facilities or discuss the Theatre Program
with you.
Don’t delay…start your theatre training
today!
We look forward to meeting you,
