Casting Policy
As a Community College, anyone may audition for HACC’s
theatre productions. It is not unusual to cast professional actors from the Harrisburg
region, along with students and community members. As a result, the learning
opportunities are expansive by ensuring greater diversity within the production
experience. The composition of auditions is defined by the director and varies with each production. Auditions may include readings from the script, memorized monologues, or improvisations.
Backstage technical positions--which include scene shift crew, makeup and costume crew, stage managers, and light and sound board operators—are composed of
theatre students within our program who fulfill the technical crew requirements of
various classes. While the technical aspects of any production are supervised by faculty
and staff, the actual performances are run by a Stage Manager who is a student from
the program and advanced in their theatre studies. As a result, in an effort to
expand their resumes and provide numerous skills, our students receive significant technical and performance training in all areas of theatre.
