Carmen Rios, a graduate of HACC’s Medical Assisting Certificate Program, offered the following reason for choosing HACC: “I chose HACC because it offered me the opportunity to take classes that would lead me straight into the work field.” She took most classes at HACC’s Harrisburg Campus, but the program can also be completed at the Gettysburg and Lebanon campuses.
Choosing HACC gives students options for their future. As Carmen put it, “HACC has made my life better by allowing me to get an education and be able to follow my dreams. HACC has opened up so many doors for me.”
With her certificate in hand, Carmen can move right into her career, or she can continue her education and build on the skills she learned. She plans to continue her studies and ultimately earn a bachelor’s degree in health science.
HACC faculty play a special role in the student’ experience, and Carmen credits one particular faculty member for showing her “how someone has the power to conquer their fears” while inspiring her to never give up when things get hard.
Carmen said, “Growing up I have faced so many challenges from being the back bone of my family and being the only one who spoke Spanish to having to grow up and figure things on my own. All this has shaped me into the person I am today by showing me how to work hard for what I want.”
