HACC Professor Inducted IntoCommunity College Journalism Hall of Fame

Jan. 19, 2000
The Community College Journalism Association (CCJA) has selected Trum Simmons, senior professor of English at Harrisburg Area Community College, for the Community College Journalism Hall of Fame. Simmons was inducted during the annual Associated Collegiate Press/College Media Advisers conference in Atlanta.

Simmons, who has been a member of the College Media Advisers and the CCJA for 21 years, was recognized as a Gold Key adviser by College Media Advisers in 1994. He is in his 28th year as advisor for HACC's student newspaper, The Fourth Estate, and has served as president of HACC's faculty council. Simmons also works with the annual National Leadership Conference on Student Government, and is a presenter for national journalism conferences for the CCJA.

"The opportunity to have Trum Simmons as an adviser has taught me that journalism is about more than breaking the big story to enhance one's chances for success and fame," says HACC graduate and former student editor, Paula K. Marinak. "Journalism is about caring enough about others to serve the public by providing them with information that will impact their lives."
