Gettysburg Campus of Harrisburg Area Community College to Host a Spring Culinary Open House

April 26, 2001
The Gettysburg Campus of Harrisburg Area Community College will host a Spring Culinary Open House on Tuesday, May 15, from 6:30 to 8pm. The free Open House will be held in the community room of the Gettysburg Fire Department, 35 North Stratton Street, in Gettysburg. Individuals interested in a career in Culinary Arts or Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management (HRIM), and the public are invited.

HACC's internationally-trained chef instructor, Michael Deveny, will present a cooking demonstration and will provide information about culinary arts, restaurant food service management, and other options available through HACC's Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management programs.

HACC's culinary arts and HRIM programs are offered locally at the Gettysburg Campus. Students can choose full or part-time study, in 12 or 22-month programs. "Students studying at HACC take advantage of the quality education and the tuition is the lowest in the area," says Chef Deveny. "When they complete their coursework, our graduates are prepared to assume positions as chefs, kitchen managers, or managers of food service operations in restaurants and institutions."

Through a partnership arrangement with HACC, the Gettysburg Fire Department's fully equipped commercial kitchen is made available to students in the Restaurant Food Service/Culinary Arts program at Gettysburg Campus HACC.

HACC's program is accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), the only nationally recognized organization that grants regional accreditation to two-and four-year colleges and universities. HACC's partnership with the Educational Foundation of the National Restaurant Association allows students to earn specialized certifications. Course credits earned in HACC programs are transferable to other academic institutions.

Staff from Gettysburg Campus HACC will be on hand at the Culinary Open House to answer questions about HACC's admissions procedures and offer assistance with financial aid plans. For more information about the open house and HACC's culinary programs, contact Chef Michael Deveny at 337-3855, extension 3139 or e-mail at modeveny@hacc.edu.
