HACC And Central Pennsylvania College Enhance Partnership

Sept. 13, 2002
Graduates from HACC's Police Academy and Criminal Justice program will have additional academic opportunities at nearby Central Pennsylvania College. Officials from both Harrisburg Area Community College and Central Penn signed an articulation agreement in front of HACC's Senator John J. Shumaker Public Safety Center on the Wildwood Campus.

Under the agreement, students who graduate from HACC with either an associate's degree in criminal justice, or certification as a municipal police officer, can pursue a bachelor's degree in criminal justice at Central Penn. Students from HACC's Police Academy are eligible to receive up to 21 credits toward a bachelor's degree at Central Penn. Criminal Justice students are eligible to receive up to 75 credits toward their bachelor's degree. Central Penn students are able to attend HACC's Police Academy or enroll in HACC's Polygraph Institute program. This program leads to certification as a polygraph examiner as an additional component of a baccalaureate education.

"We pride ourselves in providing a quality education in a highly supportive environment," said HACC President Edna Baehre, PhD. "We purposely keep our class sizes small and encourage frequent one-on-one interaction between faculty members and students. Our students who move forward to earn a bachelor's degree in criminal justice will benefit from the security of knowing that the credits they earn here at HACC will transfer without duplicating coursework at Central Penn."

"Central Pennsylvania College is delighted to provide this opportunity to graduates of Harrisburg Area Community College," stated Todd A. Milano, President of Central Penn. "The proximity of our two institutions makes this extremely attractive to those who choose to live, study, and work in the greater Harrisburg area. And the timing of this step strengthening the relationship between our two institutions couldn't be better. The need for quality professionals in the criminal justice arena is here and now."

The agreement is another in a series of agreements HACC has negotiated with colleges and universities to provide central Pennsylvania residents more choices and opportunities in reaching higher education.

Central Pennsylvania College offers bachelor's and associate's degree career programs in information technology, communications, business administration, criminal justice, healthcare, and the legal field. Central PennÕs mission is to provide an education that prepares its graduates to obtain employment in their chosen field, continue their education, and become contributing members of society.
