Black History Month Events at Harrisburg Area Community College

Saturday, January 31 -
Black History Month Kick-off Celebration: Praise and Worship at 5:30pm, Gospel Concert from 6pm to 8pm in the C. Ted Lick Wildwood Conference Center on the Wildwood Campus in Harrisburg. Featuring Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church Praise Team, Harambee United Church of Christ Praise Team, Goodwin Memorial Baptist Church Youth Choir, Black Achiever's Gospel Choir, Millersville University Gospel Choir, Captial Area Music Association (CAMA) and HACC Gospel Ensemble. Tuesday, February 3 -
Reception at HACC's Gettysburg Campus from 11:30am to 1pm featuring the artwork of Nancy Mendes, poetry reading by Jacq-e Pinn and Christine Johnson, and a musical performance by Osubi I. Craig. Artwork from Mendes is currently on display at the Gettysburg Campus, 731 Old Harrisburg Road in Gettysburg, until February 20. Free. African American Marketplace from 11am to 2 pm, in the Cooper Student Center on Harrisburg Area Community College's Wildwood Campus in Harrisburg. Sponsored by HACC's African American Student Association. For information, contact HACC at (717) 780-3276.


Monday, February 16 -
Dayton Contemporary Dance Company modern dance master class from 6:30pm to 8pm at the Harrisburg Dance Conservatory. Registration is required, and the fee is $15. For more information and registration, contact the dance conservancy at (717) 561-4600.


Tuesday, February 17 -
Dayton Contemporary Dance Company will present The Flight Project at 7:30 pm, in Rose Lehrman Arts Center on HACC's Wildwood Campus in Harrisburg. An evening of new dances celebrating the 100th anniversary of flight. Tickets are $29/adult and $22/student, senior citizens. Tickets can be purchased by phone at (717) 231-ROSE. Second annual Fraternity/Sorority Stepshow and Dance (Stompdown) from 7 pm-2 am, HACC's James Evans Physical Education Center on the Wildwood Campus in Harrisburg. High school seniors and older are invited to stay for the dance that begins at 10:30pm. Sponsored by the African American Student Association (AASA). Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
