Buddhist monk will speak on the nature of reality

Aug. 24, 2005
What is reality? What is the Buddhist teaching about the nature of reality and the nature of the self? Do our ideas and opinions of ourselves constitute who we are?

Bhante Wimala, a traveling Buddhist monk from Sri Lanka, will speak on the nature of reality according to Buddhist teachings on Wednesday, September 7, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm, at the Gettysburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College. Bhante's presentation will take place in Community Room 109 and will be open to the community at no charge. There will be a time for questions following the lecture.

For two decades, Bhante has traveled the world bringing messages of peace, loving kindness, compassion and non-violence. He is the founder and spiritual director of the Triple Gem Society, a nonprofit organization that is involved in humanitarian projects throughout the world, providing medical care and supplies, shelter, schools and scholarships. During his presentation at HACC, Bhante will report on the tsunami relief effort in Sri Lanka. In February 2005, the Triple Gem Society collaborated with HACC-Gettysburg Campus and Gallery 30 books to sponsor an "Open Your Heart" fundraising drive to help victims of the disaster.
