Faculty at Lancaster Campus appointed

Four professors have joined the faculty of the Lancaster Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College.

Dr. Gary Brown, of Mohnton, was promoted to professor of biology and joins three other full-time biology faculty members at the Lancaster Campus. He has taught at the local campus of more than 3600 students since 2003. Brown has a doctorate in molecular biology from the University of Oklahoma and a master's degree in medical microbiology from Arizona State University. He has experience in biotechnology, microbiology and medical microbiology at numerous institutions. He also taught at Mary Washington University in Fredericksburg, Va. and Reading Area Community College.

HACC welcomes two new math professors, Debra Rothermel and Lyra Neville.

Rothermel, of Lititz, has a bachelor's and a master's degree in math education from Millersville University as well as a Pennsylvania teacher's certification in mathematics for grades 7-12. Rothermel taught mathematics at Manheim Central High School for more than 10 years. She's been a HACC adjunct since 1989 and has taught all levels of algebra and trigonometry as well as developmental courses.

Neville, of Marietta, received bachelor's degrees in mathematics and Spanish from Eastern New Mexico University. She also has a master's degree in mathematics from University of New Mexico. She's taught at the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus, Albuquerque Technical-Vocational Institute, Sunapee Middle High School, and most recently, as an associate professor at New Hampshire Community Technical College, Claremont, N.H.

Marie Ulman, of Harrisburg, joins HACC's Lancaster Campus as professor of reading. Ulmen has a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the State University of New York, Cortland, N.Y., and a master's degree in education, with a specialization in reading, from Shippensburg University. Ulmen taught reading at Milton Hershey School as well as schools in the Harrisburg School District, and Holy Family School in Harrisburg.
