HACC Foundation elects members to Board of Directors

The HACC Foundation recently elected 15 members to its Board of Directors. These corporate and community leaders are committed to raising awareness and funds for HACC, central Pennsylvania's community college, and its students.

Joining the Board, with terms set to expire June 30, 2007, are Marion C. Alexander, Daniel E. Beren, Esquire, Patricia M. Bosma, Richard H. Brown, Ronald Brown, Robert C. Buckingham, MD, Jonathan L. Byler, Nicholas Hughes, Frank W. Jackson, MD, David H. McLane, PhD, Howell C. Mette, Esquire, George R. Moffitt, Jr., MD, Daniel W. Paul, Rory G. Ritrievi, and Gregg A. Schwotzer.

Marion C. Alexander is an active community member and fundraiser who served as chairwoman and board member for the 2004 Allied Arts Campaign. In addition she is a current member of the Whitaker Center Board of Directors, The Second Mile - Southcentral Board, Goodwill Industries - Advisory and Keystone Boards, and Dauphin County Library Board. In 2003 Alexander was board chairwoman for the United Way Capital Region. She was the WITF Capital Capaign Leadership Gifts Chair in 2002-2003.

Daniel E. Beren, Esquire, heads the government relations activities of Buchanan Ingersoll. As a legislator, Beren served for 10 years as a distinguished member of Pennsylvania's General Assembly. Throughout his tenure in the House, Beren was an active force in bringing elements of reform into Pennsylvania government. He authored the first piece of legislation anywhere in the nation to offer tax credits to the business community for involvement in social problems.

Patricia M. Bosma is a senior vice president and senior relationship manager in Wachovia Bank's Central Pennsylvania Commercial Banking Group. Bosma is an active member of Wachovia's Harrisburg Board, Leadership Team and Contributions Committee. She has contributed her fundraising talents to the Allied Arts Fund, United Way of the Capital Region, Keystone Area Boy Scouts of America and Guardenzia.

Richard H. Brown is vice president and market director, Western Market, for Sterling Financial Trust Company, York. Brown most recently served as executive director of The York Foundation and has spent 33 years in the trust and investment management industry.

Ronald Brown has been working as a traffic engineer for Pennoni Associates, Camp Hill, since retiring from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. He had served the state as a civil engineer for 35 years. Brown also serves as the chairman of HACC's Board of Trustees, of which he has been a member for 10 years.

Robert C. Buckingham, MD, has operated Locust Lane Medical Center, a private practice of family medicine, for 40 years. Buckingham also is a member of the PinnacleHealth Medical Services Board and the Pennsylvania Health Occupation Students of America Foundation Board.

Jonathan L. Byler is president and owner of Lebanon Valley Golf Club, Inc., which owns and operates Lebanon Valley Golf Club, Blue Mountain View Golf Club and Iron Valley Golf Club. Byler is a member of the board of directors of the Pennsylvania Golf Course Owners Association.

Nicholas Hughes serves on various non-profit boards, including those of Family and Children's Service of the Capital Region, Venture Investment Forum, Modern Transit Partnership and OpenStage. From 1980 until 2000, he was chief financial officer and part owner of TV Host Inc., which he later sold to TV Guide.

Frank W. Jackson, MD, started Jackson Gastroenterology in 1977. Although he retired from active practice in the fall of 2002, he continues to serve as the medical director of the West Shore Endoscopy Center. Jackson is board certified in internal medicine and a fellow in the American College of Physicians and the American College of Gastroenterology.

David H. McLane, PhD, was the founder, owner, president and CEO of Mainstay Services for 10 years. McLane also served as executive director of the Helen H. Stevens Community Mental Health Center, Carlisle. He is an active community member who currently serves on the board of trustees for the S. Wilson and Grace M. Pollock Foundation and is a member of the Harrisburg Rotary Club.

Howell C. Mette, Esquire is a senior partner in the Harrisburg law firm of Mette, Evans & Woodside. Mette served as an adjunct professor for Federal taxation courses at The Dickinson School of Law from 1952 to 2002 and received an honorary Doctor of Law degree from The Dickinson School of Law in 1985. He also served as deputy attorney general of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from 1952 to 1956.

George R. Moffitt, Jr., MD, has practiced medicine in Carlisle and Harrisburg since 1955. In 1972, he founded what is now known as Moffitt Heart and Vascular Group. Moffitt has volunteered for Hamilton Health Center, Keystone Human Services, Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, and Lewisberry Medical Clinic Advocacy Group.

Daniel W. Paul is currently the director and general manager of General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems in Red Lion. Prior to his current position, he was manager of manufacturing.

Rory G. Ritrievi is executive vice president and chief lending officer for Commerce Bank, Camp Hill. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society named him "Man of the Year" in 2003.

Gregg A. Schwotzer is president and CEO of Crossgates, Inc., Crossgates Management, Inc. and subsidiaries. Schwotzer is a member of the Harrisburg Regional Chamber of Commerce board of directors and a member of the fund raising committee for St. Clair Hospital.

The HACC Foundation is a non-profit educational trust established in 1985 by visionary leaders who saw the value of preparing for future years, to raise private and corporate revenues in support of HACC. The HACC Foundation Endowment is comprised of nearly 100 individual restricted funds totaling more than $25 million in value. HACC foundation revenues of more than $1 million are given annually to the institution to offer fiscal support for scholarships, instructional and facilities needs, cultural activities, and special programs.
