HACC Hosts Children's Art Exhibit

March 25, 2005
The next exhibit at the Gettysburg Campus of HACC is a display of 100 images and expressions created by children from toddlerhood through elementary school. Coordinated by local artist and art teacher Ann Byrne, the exhibit begins March 28 and continues through through May 16. The children were invited to exhibit art pieces they have completed at school, at home, or in art classes. A reception to meet the artists is scheduled for Thursday, April 7, 2005, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in Community Room 109 at the Gettysburg Campus, 731 Old Harrisburg Road. The exhibit and reception are open to the community.

Byrne said she is coordinating this exhibit to support the arts and to honor the creative imaginations of children. "Exhibiting their artwork will allow children to feel a sense of pride and enhanced self-esteem; it will provoke imagination and empower them to be individuals in a community. Once children discover the world of art, they continue using their imaginations to explore great books, life experiences and even to create their own wonderful works of art."

Byrne encourages parents to "Imagine seeing your child's art in a gallery hallway instead of on the refrigerator!" The artworks in the HACC exhibit will be framed or matted for hanging, and children will have the option of offering their works for sale.

Ann Byrne is a local artist, art teacher, and mother of two. She is well known for the art experiences she has provided for children at the Adams County Library, at St. Francis Xavier School and at Off the Cornered Market in Gettysburg. She has organized five successful children's art exhibits in the community in the last two years.

Exhibit hours for the children's art display at HACC are 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Fridays. For more information, call HACC-Gettysburg Campus at 337-3855.
