HACC offers new technology classes

Are you interested in learning to create a simple web site? Would you like to learn more about digital photography? Is your home computer system secure from the problems caused by viruses, spam, adware and spyware?

There are noncredit community education classes to make all this new technology easier to learn and manage at the Harrisburg and Lebanon Campuses of HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College.

Using a Digital Camera will be offered on Saturday, Nov. 19, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Harrisburg Campus. Cost is $105. Students are encouraged to bring their own digital camera and accessories to class.

This course includes a discussion of the features found on digital cameras and tips on how to take great pictures. Participants will learn basic editing techniques using computer software in order to turn simple snapshots into cherished keepsakes.

Introduction to Home Computer Security will be offered on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the Harrisburg Campus. Cost is $49. Windows Introduction or similar experience is required. This course also will be taught at the Lebanon Campus of HACC in a special session for those over age 50 on Friday, Dec. 2, 8:30-11:30 a.m.

Participants will learn some practical tips for insuring the security of their files in a home computer environment. The workings of cookies and cache, firewalls, spam and anti-virus security will be discussed, as well as the differences between dial-up, DSL, and cable connections.

Flash 1 sessions are Mondays and Wednesday, Dec. 5, 7, 12 and 14 from 6-9 p.m. at the Harrisburg Campus. The cost is $259 for the 12-hour course.

Software professionals and those who would like to advance the Web knowledge will learn how to design cross-platform, low-bandwidth animations, presentations, and Web applications. Attendees will learn to create graphics, use Movie Explorer, add sound, use symbols and libraries, and import video.
