Hispanic Heritage Celebration at HACC-Gettysburg

Aug. 15, 2005
The community is invited to join Generacion Diez families and HACC students, staff and faculty to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at HACC-Gettysburg Campus. The Hispanic Heritage Celebration takes place on Wednesday, September 28, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in the Student Commons at the HACC campus, North Gettysburg Center, 731 Old Harrisburg Road, near Weis Markets and Adams County National Bank.

The celebration features Latino music and dance, including a program of traditional Mexican dances by students from the Generacion Diez 21st Century Community Learning Center, and a meringue and salsa dance demonstration and lesson by students in HACC Spanish classes. The Generacion Diez Parent Association will provide a buffet of Hispanic foods.

"Last year, for the first time, our campus began offering English as a Second Language (ESL) classes," said Gettysburg Campus dean Jennifer Weaver. "Along with a growing population of Hispanic students, we also have an active group of Spanish instructors and students, as well as sociology classes studying various aspects of culture and society. This celebration provides a wonderful opportunity to practice our language skills, learn about Latino cultures, and strengthen the connections between HACC and the local Hispanic community."

The Hispanic Heritage Celebration is open to the community at no charge. For more information, call HACC at 717-337-3855.
