HACC to offer third annual Wellness through Natural Living Conference

April 20, 2006
Attend a one-day conference at HACC, and you will walk away with ideas you can use to make your life better and healthier. "Going green," ancient spiritual traditions, acupuncture and Chinese medicine, holistic movements, and healthy lifestyle and nutrition are just some of the new topics this year.

HACC's third annual Wellness through Natural Living Conference will offer 34 informative sessions in the C. Ted Lick Wildwood Conference Center on Saturday, May 6 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The conference center is located on the college's Harrisburg Campus. Visitors can use entrance four along Industrial Road in Harrisburg, near the Farm Show Complex.

Each hour participants can choose from six concurrent sessions that focus on three primary areas: health, nutrition and the environment. Sources for books, classes and practitioners also will be available. The conference concludes with a final workshop of stress-reducing interactive drumming.

Robyn Griggs Lawrence, editor-in-chief of Natural Home & Garden magazine and author of Wabi-Sabi House will offer the keynote address, "Simple Steps Toward Living Wisely." The focus of her talk will be on how to make everyday choices-from the food you eat to the cleaning products and lightbulbs you use-that can go a long way toward a healthier, happier planet.

Lawrence is known as a passionate promoter of healthy, harmonious lifestyles and living spaces that are light on the land. She has written on topics ranging from echo building and decorating to spiritual design and organic gardening. Lawrence makes her home in Boulder, Colo.

The final session, "Livin' in the Rhythm," is a workshop and closing ceremony with Mark Seaman of Earth Rhythms. This interactive drumming and music workshop will help to reduce any stress and increase attendees' positive immune system factors and their sense of well being.

Seaman will bring a selection of world drums and percussion instruments so that all can join in. Attendees are welcome to bring their own drums. "Livin' in the Rhythm" will be a fun hands-on experience in community building, developing listening skills and learning new ways of communicating.

Cost for the conference is $75 and includes healthy vegetarian and non-vegetarian buffet lunches and refreshments. Also included are 30 exhibits to explore and a goody bag with items and handouts from presenters.
