HACC Lancaster Health Fair Provides Free Screenings for the Public

April 16, 2007
Periodic health screenings not only help you stay at your physical best but also are a tool to catch early signs of developing health issues. To help keep track of your wellness, HACC offers a free Health Fair at its Lancaster Campus located at Old Philadelphia Pike in Lancaster.

The Lancaster Campus annual Health Fair is scheduled on Monday, April 30 from 10am-2pm in the Community Room (Main building, room 222). This event is free and open to the public; no registration is necessary.

Free screenings performed by HACC nursing and HACC practical nursing students include tests for irregular blood pressure, and diabetes. Bone Density testing will be provided by the Lancaster Regional Medical Center. The American Lung Association will provide Carbon Monoxide testing. Receive a soothing chair massage offered by Carolyn Rutherford, a certified massage therapist. Obtain important information regarding healthy body mass composition, learn your current body fat ratio and gain nutritional information from the HACC Nutrition Department. Fatal Vision goggles (supplied by the Council on Drug and Alcohol Abuse) will be available for participants to experience the simulated effects of drugs and alcohol on their ability to complete simple tasks.

Community participants for this year's health fair include Alliance for Affordable Services, American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, Arthritis Foundation, Domestic Violence Services of Lancaster County, Nuestra Clinic, and the Tobacco Free Coalition.

Attendees will receive a free gift for participating in the screenings. For more information, contact Warren Bair, coordinator of student activities, at 717-358-2850 or whbair@hacc.edu.
