HACC Travels to New Market, Virginia to Study Battle

Oct. 24, 2007
Although best known for the participation of the VMI cadet corps, there is much more to the story of the Battle of New Market, which was fought on May 15, 1864. HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, will lead a tour to New Market, Va. and the areas that make up the battlefield on Saturday, Nov. 10.

Tour participants will walk in the footsteps of John C. Breckinridge, Franz Siegel, and their armies and get to know some of the men who fought there during "Battle of New Market: The Contest was Hotly Sustained." The program also will include visits to many lesser-known battlefield areas outside of the state park.

The tour bus will leave the college's Gettysburg Campus, 731 Old Harrisburg Road, at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10. The cost is $89 and includes roundtrip coach transport from Gettysburg. Admission to the state park grounds and museum, which is $6, is not included.

To register for this trip, call 338-1010 or visit www.hacc.edu by Nov. 1. HACC's Noncredit Shopping Cart makes it easier than ever to find and register for classes online. Simply find the course, add it to your shopping cart and then "check out" to enroll in the course. Users receive an e-mail confirming enrollment.
