York Center of HACC offers upcoming community education classes

Whether your interests lie in conversational foreign language, plants, scrapbooking or the law, the York Center of HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, has just the ticket this winter with its community education classes.

Conversational Spanish I, will be offered at the York Center of HACC, 2010 Pennsylvania Avenue, Wednesdays, Feb. 7-March 28, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Cost is $125. These classes are designed for those 16 years of age and above who want to learn basic language skills to enhance employment qualifications, for travel or simply for personal growth.

Help with your green thumb before the growing season is offered with Perennial Problems, Thursday, Feb. 8, 6-8 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 10, 10 a.m.-noon. Cost is $25. Classes are held at Shiloh Nurseries in Emigsville.

This class will help participants manage problems such as too much sand in their soil, too much sun and how to care for plants when it's too dry or too wet. They will learn about new and unusual perennials, how to amend their soils to correct and enhance and what types of perennials can be used in problem areas.

Try your hand at Making Homemade Wine on Thursday, Feb. 22, 6:15-9:15 p.m. Cost is $50. If you can't make that session, another one is available at HACC's Gettysburg Campus on Thursday, Feb. 15, 6:15-9:15 p.m.

Winemaking can be just a simple as baking cookies. All it takes is patience and imagination. This class will explore the concept of homemade winemaking, using some of the season's best ingredients to make personal flavors that are sure to delight everyone's taste buds.

Mini "Exploding" Scrapbook is a one-time session offered at the York Center of HACC on Saturday, Feb. 24, 9-11:30 a.m. Cost is $29, plus a $4 materials fee collected in class.

Students will make a portable scrapbook that fits in their purse. Compact when closed, the "explosion" folds open to expose 18 squares that can be filled with photos and "scrapbooked." This is a great project or gift for scrapbookers.

Landlord/Tenant Law is scheduled at the York Center of HACC on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 6-9 p.m. Cost is $35.

This class is for both those who collect or pay rent. Topics will include creation of landlord/tenant relationships, including Fair Housing Laws, capacity to contract, form leases and statue of frauds; lease-terms, security deposits, utilities, rules and regulations; rights and duties - payment of rent, tenant dispute, implied warranties; termination of relationship and more. No personal advice will be given by attorney instructor Kurt Blake, Esq. of York.
