Artisans invited share their kitchen gadgets for next HACC Radius showcase

Sept. 11, 2008

HARRISBURG – A lot of cooks will make the broth better for the next Radius, HACC Gallery and Museum Shop showcase series – Creative Kitchen. The shop at The State Museum of Pennsylvania is accepting items used in the kitchen from artisans across the state for the showcase which will run Nov. 1-Dec. 31.

Craftsmen of different mediums are encouraged to submit their original interpretations of functional items used in the kitchen.

“For this showcase we are looking for creative items – ceramic bowls, wooden spoons, textile aprons and such,” said Jessica Lantz, curator of arts and assistant manager of Radius. “Some of our biggest sellers in Radius are functional handy items such as egg separators, garlic keepers and butter keepers. The perfect showcase to approach the holiday season, when shoppers are looking for a unique gift that their loved one can’t live without.”

The deadline to submit digital entries is Monday, Oct. 13. Artists are limited to four entries, submitted either by e-mail or on a disk and sent in postal mail. There is no fee to enter; all work chosen for the showcase must be available for sale on consignment.

Artists whose work is chosen are responsible for delivery and return of their work.

Direct all e-mail entries to Jessica Lantz, curator of arts and assistant manager, at jllantz@hacc.edu. Disks should be addressed to Lantz at 300 N. Third St., Harrisburg, PA 17120. For additional information call Radius, HACC Gallery and Museum Shop at 787-5590.

The showcases are displayed at Radius, on the ground floor of the State Museum of Pennsylvania, Third and North streets in Harrisburg.

Radius is a partnership of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, and the Pennsylvania Historical Museum Commission.
