HACC Lancaster art show features work of well-known art professors

March 20, 2008
"Three Painters" brings together the work of three area art professors for a free community art show April 1-May 2 at the Lancaster Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College.

"Three Painters" includes the work of Elizabethtown College professors Aaron Brooks and Lou Schellenberg and Penn State Harrisburg professor Paul Manlove. They all have exhibited extensively locally and throughout the United States.

"All three artists investigate the tension between representation and abstraction," said Schellenberg. "The subject matter and content of our work develops through the process of playing with formal elements such as color, shape and tension."

The Lancaster Campus art shows have done much to enrich campus life, said Judith Johnson, humanities professor who serves on the campus' art and decoration committee. "Our fundamental goal is to educate and get people to appreciate the arts," she said, adding that the art shows have attracted many community members in addition to students, faculty and staff members. "It is exciting to see this taking place in our own community."

Johnson will moderate a panel discussion at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 16. The public is invited to attend and the reception that follows. The art show and panel discussion/reception takes place in Room 203 of the East Building.

Previous artists have included Lancaster artists Gail Gray and Brant Schuller and Marietta artist Linda Mylin Ross.

Art show hours are noon-3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 1-May 2. Group tours can be arranged by e-mail request to jcjohnso@hacc.edu or cwrose@hacc.edu.
