HACC offers tips on navigating health insurance maze

Networking lunch for women entrepreneurs set Sept. 26 in Harrisburg
Sept. 9, 2008
HARRISBURG – Health insurance is an important, yet complex, issue that many business owners struggle to understand. Simplifying the process and providing the answers to their questions is the job of a health insurance broker, like Kimberly Walker.
Walker, president of Harrisburg-based Employee Benefit Solutions Inc., will be the featured speaker during the next Women’s Talkabouts presented by HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
“How do you Navigate the Health Insurance Maze?” will be the topic of the free, informal networking session noon-1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at HACC’s Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies,Suite 231, Three Penn Center, 349 Wiconisco St. Participants are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch. HACC will provide a dessert and beverage.
“Our purpose in choosing this topic was to help participants break down the many healthcare options available to them and to have them leave with a basic understanding of what they all mean,” explained Dorothy Minnick, a business counselor with HACC’s Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies.
Walker, who had worked in the benefits department of a large company before starting her own business 10 years ago, will focus her discussion on how women entrepreneurs can control their organization’s healthcare costs.
“Being an independent business owner myself and experiencing the same issues these women are experiencing, I totally understand (the challenges they face),” Walker said. “There are a lot of options available that most small business owners might not be aware exist. I will cover the details and then open it up to their questions.”
The sponsor of this month’s Women’s Talkabouts is Rose Brown. Brown is the owner of B.O.U.N.C.E. (Business Opportunities Unlimited Networking Coaching Education), a business networking and marketing forum. For more information, contact Brown at 558-8075 or visit www.1234bounce.com.
