HACC offers special Battle of Gettysburg seminar

March 11, 2009
Gettysburg, PA – Nearly 150 years ago, the critical Battle of Gettysburg and President Abraham Lincoln’s local visit a few months later remain key points in the history of the American Civil War.
For a closer look at our country’s 16th president and how the war still affects the local community, plan to attend the annual Civil War Seminar on March 28 at the Gettysburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College. James Getty, a local resident and renowned Lincoln impersonator, is the keynote speaker for the special event that runs from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Cost is $59 per person, and the deadline to register is March 20.
In addition to Getty, who will speak from 9-10:30 a.m., participants can choose from a selection of five Battle of Gettysburg-related courses, enjoy a buffet lunch with drawings for door prizes and continue with special afternoon sessions on the battlefield led by licensed battlefield guides.
The course selection includes “President Lincoln Comes to Gettysburg” by John J. Fitzpatrick Jr., “Ring of Iron: Defense of Baltimore Road” by Dr. Charles C. Fennell Jr., “June 26, 1863: The First Battle of Gettysburg” by Timothy H. Smith, “Connecticut at Gettysburg” by Stuart Dempsey, and “Clash of Sabers at East Cavalry Field” by David Hamacher.
