HACC recognizes Global Entrepreneurship Week Nov. 16-22

Nov. 11, 2009
HARRISBURG – What started as Enterprise Week in the United Kingdom in 2004 has grown into Global Entrepreneurship Week – a worldwide movement with more than 77 countries. This year, HACC’s Institute of Entrepreneurial Studies will recognize the special week Nov. 16-22 with events at its regional campuses that can advance the efforts of entrepreneurs in the mid-state.
“Inspiring young people to think about entrepreneurship is what this week focuses on,” said Business Counselor Kathy Snavely. “While the entrepreneurship boom is among 55-64 year-olds, we’d like to get people started as early as possible on their journey. The sessions during the week would certainly apply everyone and particularly younger entrepreneurs.”
Snavely will plant the seed of entrepreneurship when she visits Lancaster Country Day School in Lancaster at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 19 to meet with students, particularly pre-college students who plan to pursue business as a field of study.
More sessions during the week include:
  • 8-10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at HACC York Campus, 2010 Pennsylvania Ave. – “USP: Do or Die.” Snavely will discuss the idea of the Unique Selling Proposition – that one-of-a-kind aspect of any business that causes consumers to select a product over the competition. Find out your USP in order for your business to excel. Cost is $15. Register by calling Kim Gross at the York Keystone Innovation Zone at 717-846-8310, extension 3028.
  • 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at the Harrisburg Campus Penn Center, 349 Wiconisco St. – “Developing Your Marketing Plan.” Review the components of a sound marketing plan – often a weak area where new entrepreneurs may not dedicate enough resources. Snavely will lead the presentation.
Cost is $25. Register by calling IES at the Harrisburg Campus, 221-1311.
  • 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at the Harrisburg Campus Penn Center – “Personal and Business Taxes.” John Klingler, CPA, will discuss the best approach when it comes to keeping track of taxes for your business and for yourself.          Thursday’s session coincides with an open house from 5:30-7:30 p.m. marking the start of HACC’s Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies at the Gettysburg Campus. Guests can attend the free “Start Your Own Business” session, discover the benefits of HACC’s IES program, meet staff members and sign up for individual business counseling.
