Open House event at HACC's York Campus

Get It Started shows the many options of higher ed. for local residents
Nov. 4, 2009
YORK – Find out about the options and flexibility at HACC during the Get It Started open house from 1-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the York Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, 2010 Pennsylvania Ave.
Prospective students can speak with faculty and current students about attending HACC, learn about career options that lead directly to the workforce and how students can save by transferring credits to a four-year school.
“With the economy impacting family budgets, we’ve seen a significant increase in students choosing HACC for freshman and sophomore years, before transferring on,” said Peter Oscsodal, dean of students at the York Campus.
Along with learning about career and transfer programs, visitors can find out about the enrollment process, financial aid and scholarship information. Important support services, such as tutoring and the library, are topics that are also covered.
In addition, visitors can investigate HACC’s English as a Second Language and General Education Development programs offered in Spanish.
For a well-rounded college experience, prospective students can speak with current students about student life, clubs and activities offered at the local campus.
“We’ve developed to the point where we offer quite a range in choices,” said Michelle Wherley, coordinator of admissions recruitment. “Guests can see the campus including the heating ventilation and air conditioning lab to get a first-hand look, speak with faculty and have their questions answered.”
The York Campus recently added the heating, ventilation and air conditioning program that can offer either a one-year certificate of two-year associate degree. An accelerated program that can be completed in a shorter, more intensive, amount of time is offered in the fall.
For more information about the Get it Started open house call the campus at 718-0328. No registration is required for this free event. Day classes begin Jan. 13 and evening and Saturday classes begin the week of Jan. 25.
