HARRISBURG – HACC’s annual Student Honors Exhibit in Photography is a collection of the finest photographs from nearly 400 HACC photography students this semester. The exhibit will be open Tuesday, Dec. 1, through Friday, Dec. 11, in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
All are invited to a free reception with the students from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10.
This fall, students were asked to submit one to two prints from each of their photography classes to the Student Honors Photography show. Of the large stacks of matted images HACC art faculty jurors selected nearly 100 photos to hang in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery’s for the show. The collection is the cream of the crop covering a wide variety of subject matter, including landscapes, portraits, still lifes, architecture and much more. The show is rich with silver gelatin prints, chromagenic prints and archival pigment prints of various sizes. Many of the photos are for sale.
HACC’s photography facility was dedicated in 1985 and ever since has been "Ghost"consistently rated by independent consultants and publications as one of the nation’s finest educational college photography complexes. The state-of-the-art facility in the John N. Hall Technology Center includes a new digital photography lab with 19 Mac Pro computers and peripherals that opened earlier this year.
HACC photography students have won dozens of national honors, including a Pulitzer Prize nomination and highest honors in the Best of College Photography Competition. Students who graduate from the photography program may transfer to a four-year college or university or go into business for themselves.
All gallery events are free and open to the public. Hours are 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 5-7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. For more information call 780-2435 or e-mail Kim Banister, gallery curator. Visit the gallery on the HACC's Web site and on Facebook.
