Preteens can head to 'college' for HACC's spring enrichment programs

'Discovery Day' series offered at Gettysburg, Harrisburg and Lancaster campuses
Jan. 13, 2010
Youngsters ages 8-12 can explore engineering and science during “Kids College Discovery Day,” a series offered this spring semester at the Lancaster, Harrisburg and Gettysburg campuses of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
The series, an extension of the popular Kids’ College Summer Enrichment program, runs from 9 a.m.-noon on a Saturday and includes instruction, materials, hands-on application, and – most importantly – a fun learning experience. The cost per session is $45. The programs are offered through HACC’s Continuing Education Center.
Here’s the lineup:
Discover Science: This hands-on camp will help youngsters discover their inner scientist. Science is in everything we do, see, hear, feel, smell and touch -- from aerodynamics to biology, math to oceanography and genetics to zoology, science is everywhere. The one-day camp runs 9 a.m.-noon for youngsters ages 8-12 and costs $45 per student. The camp is offered at Midtown 2 of the Harrisburg Campus on Jan. 23, at the Lancaster Campus on Jan. 30 and at the Gettysburg Campus on Feb. 6.
Discover Engineering: Theodore Von Karman, a famous engineer and physicist, once said, “Scientists discover the world that exists; engineers create the world that never was.” This camp will show youngsters ages 8-12 how to use their imagination to dream, design and build. Unleash the engineer within! The camp runs 9 a.m.-noon at a cost of $45 per student. It is offered at Midtown 2 of the Harrisburg Campus on Feb. 20, at the Lancaster Campus on Feb. 27 and at the Gettysburg Campus on March. 20.
