HACC-Gettysburg Campus offers Microsoft's My PC Series

Series provides continuing education opportunity for fun, useful computing skills
Jan. 20, 2011
GETTYSBURG – Learn new computer skills with Microsoft’s My PC Series offered by the Continuing Education Division at HACC-Gettysburg Campus.

Based on curriculum provided by Microsoft, the My PC Series takes a jargon-free approach to teaching a variety of “getting started” PC topics. The program consists of four short, hands-on workshops covering PC fundamentals such as navigating Windows 7 and using free Windows Live tools for photo editing, social networking and more, as well as some more in-depth classes for home and business users.

Students are taught in hands-on labs on PCs newly converted to Windows 7, Microsoft’s latest operating system.

All workshops are offered from 1-4 p.m. on Fridays. Each workshop costs $49. The following courses are scheduled:

My PC: Getting Started with Windows 7 Workshop, offered Feb. 11. All the fun things and no tech babble. Learn quick tips for getting around, where to put your stuff and how to find it easily, smarter ways to surf and shop online, sharing photos, personalizing your PC and more.  If you’ve ever thought computer classes were too boring or technical, this is the class for you.

My PC: Creative Photo Slideshows Workshopoffered Feb. 18. Turn your digital photos and videos into a fun movie slideshow! Learn easy ways to create movies with your photos by adding transitions, motion effects, titles, credits and music. Burn a DVD to play on your TV or computer, or share with family.

My PC: Connecting with Friends & Family Workshop, offered Feb. 25. Learn three new ways to stay in touch — see loved ones on your PC via webcam, try out social networking to keep connected with your family and friends, and learn how to share photos in different ways.

My PC: Digital Photo Editing Workshop, offered March 4. Have fun while learning all the essentials, including how to adjust color and light, fix red-eye, crop, straighten, create a panoramic photo and even “airbrush.”

“By offering the new My PC series of classes, we are confident our students will have more fun with today’s technologies while gaining valuable skills to help them get things done faster and easier,” said Ken Corbran, education specialist, HACC continuing education Computer Applications and Information Technology training.

Microsoft My PC Series workshops will be offered again from 1-4 p.m. Fridays, April 1-22 and June 3-24.
