HARRISBURG – HACC’s annual Student Honors Exhibit in Photography is a collection of photographs of the best work among the 400 students in photography classes this semester.
The free, public exhibit will be open daily from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, through Wednesday, Dec. 14, in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College. Evening hours are 5-7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. Many of the photos are for sale.
All are invited to a free reception with the students from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8.
Students were invited to submit one to two prints from each of their photography classes. Art faculty jurors selected nearly 100 photos to hang in the gallery. The collection covers a variety of subject matter, including landscapes, portraits, figures, still lifes and architecture with silver gelatin prints, chromagenic prints and archival pigment prints of various sizes. Many of the photos are for sale, all proceeds going to the artist.
HACC’s photography program consists of a large traditional black and white photo developing lab, 14 individual color dark rooms, a digital photography classroom, and a photography “Northern Light” studio with retractable roof. Since 1988, HACC students have competed in photography competitions with more than 2,000 other colleges and universities and never finished lower than third place. Students have been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize award, have been employed as photographers for local newspapers, opened their own studios or have gone on to earn additional degrees in higher education institutions.
All gallery events are free and open to the public. For more information call 717-780-2435 or email Kim Banister, gallery curator, at kebanist@hacc.edu. Visit the gallery online at www.hacc.edu or on Facebook.
