Fun and growth at HACC summer 2009 camps

HARRISBURG –  This summer 2009, the campuses at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, offer school-age youth a number of camps where they can explore new subjects and have fun. The schedule includes:
 
At the Harrisburg Campus, One HACC Drive
  • Theatre for Young People Summer Theatre Camps
    (theatre camps are also offered at Camp Hill Borough Building, Lemoyne Borough Building and Milton Hershey High School)
Theatre for Young People was created to offer an affordable venue for area young people to celebrate and gain exposure to every aspect of theatre including acting, dance, makeup, puppetry, playwrighting and designing sets, costumes and light. Youth ranging in age from 7 to 17 can find their creative potential in a series of week-long camps offered from June 15 through Aug. 7.

  • Music Business Summer Camps
    Choose from four camps, for ages 14 and above. Camps are $85 and include professional instruction and materials.

“Guitar: Learn how to play!”

Students must provide their own acoustic or classical guitar –no electric guitars.

9 a.m.-noon Monday-Thursday, June 15-18, 2009.

 

“Home and Recording Studio Level 1”

Emphasis on creating a usable original recording.

1-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday, June 15-18, 2009. 

 

“Home and Recording Studio Level 2”

Emphasis on level balancing and frequency distribution.

1-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday, June 22-25, 2009.

 

“Songwriting and Composition”

Basics of songwriting form and music theory, harmonic and melodic development for popular song composition.

9 a.m.-noon Monday-Thursday, June 22-25, 2009.

  • Technology Summer Camp
    (Held at HACC-Midtown, 1500 North 3rd St., Harrisburg)
    9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, July 13-16, 2009.
This summer academy is for teens between the ages of 15-17. Enrollment is limited to 15 students. Participants will:
1.      Learn about opportunities in the trade and technology fields
2.      Participate in Geospatial Technology, Computer Aided Drafting, Electrical and Mechatronics demonstrations
3.      Take a career assessment test
4.      Learn about how to apply to college and how to pay for college
Application and $35 payment is due June 19, 2009. Camp fee is refunded if student attends all camp sessions. For more information and to request an application form, contact Donna Daversa at HACC, 221-1300, ext. 1421. 
  • Annual 2009 Ultimate Spin Basketball Camp

Harlen Globetrotter Chris "Mr. Handles" Franklin returns this

summer for boys and girls ages 9-15. Franklin and fellow pro

athletes Arnold “A Train” Bernard and Luis “Trikz” DaSilva. Focus on the players development – on and off the court.   9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday, July 27-31, 2009, James W. Evans Physical Education Center.

Space is limited to the first 100 youth who apply. Cost is $150, and includes lunch, individual instruction and trophies awarded during the closing event.

    June 25-July 30, 2009
    Cost is $85/week
Subjects include:
“Kids College,” ages 8-11, 8 a.m.-noon Monday-Thursday, June 22-25, 2009.
“Kids College Career Kaleidoscope,” ages 12-15, 8 a.m.-noon Monday-Thursday, June 22-25, 2009.
“School of Music: Playing the Piano,” ages 8-11, 1-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday, June 22-25 and June 29-July 2, 2009.
“Way Cool Wednesday: 3-D Graphics,” ages 12-17, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 8. The cost of this session is $80.
“Solar Life,” ages 8-11, 1-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday, July 13-16, 2009.
“School of Film: Lights, Action, Camera,” ages 12-17, 1-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday, July 13-16, 2009.
“Astronomy,” ages 8-11, 1-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday, July 27-30, 2009.
“School of Video Game Design,” ages 12-17, 1-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday, July 27-30, 2009.

“School of Art for Kids,” ages 8-11, 1-4 p.m., Monday-Thursday, July 6-9, 2009.
“School of Rock: Playing the Guitar,” ages 12-17, 1-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday, July 13-16, 2009.
 “Greenology,” ages 8-11, 9 a.m.-noon, Monday-Thursday, July 20-23, 2009. The cost of this camp is $80.
“Academic Technology: STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics),” ages 12-17, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Thursday, Aug. 3-6, 2009.
