GETTYSBURG – A new art exhibit, “Battlefield Impressions,” opens Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013,  in the gallery hallway of HACC’s Gettysburg Campus. The exhibit features the work of local artist, Freya Qually. It is part of the year’s events in recognizing the 150^th anniversary of the Gettysburg Civil War Battle.

            Qually is primarily an oil painter who also occasionally works in pastel and charcoal. She paints landscapes and still-lifes, and has created charcoal portraits that have been used in publications for The Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College for more than 20 years. She has exhibited her work across the United States and in venues such as The Art Association of Harrisburg and The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, Md.

            Qually founded the studio art department at Penn State Mont Alto. She teaches studio art and received the Martha Fisher Award for Excellence in Teaching for the campus in 2005. Qually holds a master’s degree in fine arts from American University, Washington, D.C., and a bachelor’s degree from Gettysburg College.

            An artist reception will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, from 2:30- 3:30 p.m. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. HACC’s Gettysburg Campus is located at 731 Old Harrisburg Road.
