HACC Foundation Appoints Kenneth Shutts as New Board Member

(HARRISBURG, Pa.) – The HACC Foundation, a nonprofit organization that works to raise private contributions in support of HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, has appointed a new board member for a three-year term ending June 30, 2016.
 
Kenneth R. Shutts, president and chief executive officer of Penn National Insurance, is a graduate of HACC, earning an associate degree in criminal science in 1974. Following his time as a student at HACC, Shutts went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in social science at Pennsylvania State University, where he graduated summa cum laude in 1976. He then earned a juris doctor’s degree at the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1979.
 
A member of the American, Pennsylvania and Dauphin County Bar Associations, Shutts is admitted to practice as an attorney of the Supreme Court of the United States, Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
 
Shutts joined Penn National Insurance in 1980, as associate counsel. In 1983, he was appointed general counsel to Penn National Insurance. He was elected to the board of directors as secretary and general counsel in 1987, and, in 1995, he was elected as senior vice president, secretary and general counsel. In 1998 he was elected to the position of executive vice president, secretary and general counsel, and subsequently named president and chief operating officer in 2007.
 
He was elected secretary and director of Inservco Insurance Services Inc. in 1986, was elected chairman from 1998 to 2007 and is currently serving as a member of the board of directors. On April 12, 2010, Shutts was elected president and chief executive officer of Penn National Insurance.

Shutts is also active in professional, civic, community and church organizations, including serving as the past chairman of the Pennsylvania Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, as well as a member of the executive advisory committee of Property Casualty Insurers Association. He is a member of the board of finance for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg and a member of the board of trustees and investment committee of the University of Baltimore.
 
In addition to his continuing education studies in the law, Shutts has completed numerous management and educational courses, including the comprehensive Insurance Executive Development Program offered by the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

The HACC Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was established in 1985 to raise private and corporate revenues in support of HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College. In fiscal year 2012-13 alone, the HACC Foundation contributed close to $2.2 million to the College in scholarships, special programs and facilities and provided financial assistance to 1,345 students.
 
Contributions to the HACC Foundation are accepted in the form of unrestricted gifts to augment endowed funds, contributions to existing or new scholarship programs or award funds, support for academic and workforce programs, sponsorship of special events and cultural programs and contributions made in honor or in memory of individuals. In addition, the Foundation holds annual events, including the Frank J. Dixon Tournament for Scholarships at HACC, and various scholarship award ceremonies.
