Something 'Fantastick' coming to HACC's Live at Rose Lehrman

Evening will include pre-show steampunk mini-fest

March 10, 2014

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Nebraska Theatre Caravan is bringing their fresh new steampunk adaptation of the classic musical “The Fantasticks” to Live at Rose Lehrman on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. in the Rose Lehrman Arts Center on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.

“The Fantasticks, book and lyrics by Tom Jones and music by Harvey Schmidt, features memorable songs like “Try to Remember” and “Soon It’s Gonna Rain.” It is the world’s longest-running production of any kind and combines breathtaking poetry and subtle theatrical sophistication with purity and simplicity. The result is a timeless fable of young lovers who become disillusioned, only to discover a more meaningful love.

“It’s classical simplicity. It’s not a contemporary character tale…steampunk seems to lend itself to this story by finding beauty among the broken pieces,” said director Carl Beck.

A pre-show steampunk mini-fest will begin at 6 p.m. in the Rose Lehrman Arts Center lobby. The mini-fest will include a pre-event lecture titled “Steampunk, A Mechanical Mythology,” presented by Professor Grimmelore (Thomas Willeford, owner of Brute Force Studios). In addition to the lecture, the mini-fest will feature vendors of steampunk artifacts, costumes and regalia, as well as selections of steampunk books and other materials.

“The Fantasticks” is presented through special arrangement with MUSIC THEATRE INTERNATIONAL, New York, NY. www.mtishows.com
