Generous Donors Establish Three New Scholarships for HACC Students
Three new scholarships have been established with funds given to the HACC Foundation, the non-profit educational trust established in 1985 to raise private and corporate revenues in support of HACC.
The scholarships are:
Jeffrey A. Wolford Memorial Scholarship Fund – Established by the family and friends of Jeffrey A. Wolford, the scholarship fund will be used for tuition and books for students enrolled in HACC’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning program.
Ted Lick Memorial Nursing Scholarship – Established by Mrs. Kelly Lick, the scholarship fund will be used for tuition and books for students enrolled in HACC’s nursing program.
Dr. Shashikant B. Patel and Mrs. Vimala S. Patel Scholarship Endowment – The scholarship fund will be used for tuition and books for Harrisburg Campus students enrolled in a health careers program.
These scholarship awards will be divided equally between the fall and spring terms.
Freas Foundation Grant Funds New Emerging Artists-in-Residence Program
HACC will use an $11,880 grant from the Freas Foundation to establish an Emerging Artists-in-Residence Program.
Currently, HACC does not have a program that offers face-to-face interaction with an emerging artist. The Emerging Artists-in-Residence Program will bring fresh ideas and perspectives to the College and potentially motivate students and others to explore artistic expression.
The program is open to emerging artists who have completed their undergraduate degree in ceramics and are seeking opportunities that will allow them to further their experience and concentrate on their art practice for a period of up to two years.
Beginning in fall 2015, the artist will spend eight hours a week interacting with students in studio art classes on HACC’s Harrisburg Campus. Artists in residence will have complete access to various studios and equipment as well as the College library. They will also participate in and assist the studio classes and will have the opportunity to meet with faculty for critiques and discussions. The residency will culminate in a solo exhibition in one of HACC’s art galleries.
The Freas Foundation grant will provide a stipend of $4,480 per year, with an additional $1,460 for supplies.

HACC, Siena Heights University Sign Articulation Agreement
A new articulation agreement between HACC and Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan, provides a pathway to a bachelor’s degree in health science for HACC graduates with an associate degree in the same field.
The agreement, which is focused on the university’s online distance education program, accepts general education credits earned by graduates in HACC’s associate degree in health science program who apply to the university’s distance program. HACC graduates will not be required to complete additional general education credits in the bachelor’s degree program.

HACC Hosts Engineering and Green Technology Discovery Day Camps
HACC will host four Discovery Day camps on engineering and green technology for students 7-12 years old. The camps are designed to help young students discover potential careers in these technical areas.
“Discover Engineering” will be held on Feb. 14, 2015, from 9 a.m. to noon at HACC’s Harrisburg Campus in the John Hall Technology Center building. A second session will be offered on Feb. 21, 2015, from 9 a.m. to noon at HACC’s Lancaster Campus. Students will explore engineering with interactive activities involving rockets. Each student will build their own launcher and rocket and will participate in a competition with awards for creativity and performance. Students will learn safety techniques, mechanisms of rocket propulsion and the engineering theory of trajectory.
“Discover Green Technology” will be held on March 21, 2015, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Midtown 2 building of HACC’s Midtown Trade and Technology Center. A second session will be offered on March 28, 2015, from 9 a.m. to noon at HACC’s Lancaster Campus. Students will learn about opportunities in the green technology field and explore the concepts with fun, interactive activities. Students will be exposed to numerous methods of green energy including pedal, wind, water and solar power. Water conservation will be discussed and students will conduct a hands-on experiment with water purification. Waste reduction will also be addressed.

Avoid Debt with Your College Education Free financial aid sessions offered Feb. 19 at any HACC campus
Finances shouldn’t be the reason for not pursuing educational goals. Learn about options at a free financial aid session hosted by HACC on Feb. 19, 2015, from 6-7:30 p.m. offered at each of the College’s five campuses in Gettysburg, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Lebanon and York.
The sessions are open to anyone; individuals do not have to be a HACC student.
HACC professionals are teaming up to answer questions about the college financial aid process. Attendees will learn about:

Live at Rose Lehrman Presents the Martha Graham Dance Company
The Live at Rose Lehrman artist series presents the Martha Graham Dance Company’s “Essential Graham” on Feb. 26, 2015, at 7:30 p.m. in the Rose Lehrman Arts Center on HACC’s Harrisburg Campus.
Founded in 1926, the Martha Graham Dance Company has been the leader in the development of modern movement and continues to honor a uniquely American style of dance that has influenced generations of artists and continues to captivate audiences. “Essential Graham” brings to life Martha Graham’s revolutionary career through the use of narrative, projections and classic Graham selections. The show will include a new work by choreographer Andonis Foniadakis that will feature a contemporary reflection on the myth of Narcissus and Echo.

HACC Kicks Off Spring 2015 with Campus Updates and New Initiatives
The Gettysburg Campus is embarking upon an initiative to offer student-driven personal enrichment programming geared for the lifelong learner. Classes will be geared for students ages 50 and older. Class topics will include history classes focusing on World War II, American History, current events, arts, technology, local themes and more. Educational tours to sites and venues throughout Pennsylvania and beyond will also be offered.
The Harrisburg Campus is starting the semester with updates to campus facilities:
New electrical panels have been installed to replace aging equipment in the J. Evans Physical Education Building.
The bathrooms in the Rose Lehrman Arts Center are under construction to enhance facilities for students, employees and guests attending arts events.
The McCormick Library was renovated to remove walls on the first floor to provide more open space for students and new carpeting was installed throughout the first floor.
The Lancaster Campus continues renovations that began in September 2014 for the campus Welcome Center. This renovation project will greatly enhance student services. Renovations are expected to be complete at the end of March 2015.
The Lebanon Campus is kicking off the spring term utilizing the innovative classroom technology at the campus. The campus has two collaboration classrooms that have short-throw projector Smartboards, large-screen TVs with Apple TV for wireless streaming and sharing and instructor carts with MacBook pros and 30 mini-iPads. In addition, the campus has collaborative tables for small group sharing. The campus cyber lounge has a collaborative table with a large-screen TV equipped with an Apple TV as well.
