HACC Offers Full-Ride Scholarships – Enough to Pay Two Years of Education

April 9, 2015

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The struggle to make ends meet while juggling classes and family responsibilities is a universal day-to-day reality for the HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, students who are single parents, veterans, older students who have lost their jobs, first-generation college students and students from lower-income families.

As U.S. President Barack Obama recently noted in the State of the Union Address, by the end of this decade, two of three jobs in this country will require post-secondary education and training.  HACC is that opportunity for students, and thanks to the HACC Foundation, HACC has a solution to assist students and parents with financial concerns.

For the first time in the College’s 51-year history, HACC is providing six full-ride scholarships. HACC will fund two years of six individuals’ education – enough to complete an associate degree.

One full-ride scholarship is available for each of the five campuses and Virtual Learning. The scholarship covers tuition, books and fees for a full academic year. The scholarship will automatically renew each term for up to six consecutive terms if the student maintains eligibility. For additional eligibility requirements, please visit hacc.edu/FullRide.

Once the student applies to HACC and receives a HACC ID and email address, he or she may apply for the full-ride scholarship. The full-ride scholarship applications are due April 30, 2015.

Individuals like Winfred Fox of Lancaster, and now a graduate of HACC, can reach their goals sooner with the support of a full-ride scholarship. Fox worked for the last six years to put herself through HACC – first to earn her certification as licensed practical nurse and, in December 2014, to graduate with an associate degree in nursing. Affordability played a role in her decision, with finances her biggest challenge to attending college.

While the student does not have to register for classes before applying for the scholarship, registration for summer and fall 2015 classes opened April 13, 2015 for future students. To register for summer and fall 2015 classes, please visit hacc.edu/RegisterNow or call 800-ABC-HACC with questions.

HACC also offers approximately 250 other scholarships through the HACC Foundation. The next scholarship cycle begins in August 2015.
