Local Ceramic Artist’s Work to be Featured at HACC’s Lancaster Campus
Exhibit opens Aug. 22, 2016; reception Sept. 21

LANCASTER, Pa. – “Form and Figuration,” a collection of ceramics by Lancaster artist Mariko Swisher, will be on display Aug. 22-Oct. 6, 2016, in the Art Space in the East Building of the Lancaster Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.

Swisher will give an informal talk about her artwork during a reception for the artist on Sept. 21 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The reception and the exhibit are open to the public.

The ceramic pieces are designed from simple themes from the natural world. In an artist statement provided by Swisher, she reveals that a fascination with nature, specifically insects from the Sendai countryside in Japan where she originates, inspires her art. She uses organic and geometric qualities of these creatures that are then combined with a contrast of fine geometric patterning and borders to create her pieces. Swisher wheel throws, hand builds and carves white earth and terra cotta forms.

The Art Space hours are Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

HACC’s Lancaster Campus is located on 1641 Old Philadelphia Pike. For more information, please contact Ilene Rosenberg at 717 948-1806 or irrosenb@hacc.edu.

His work was featured on the cover of Graphis Poster Annual 2015, a book published by Graphis, a New York-based company that presents and promotes the work of exceptional talent in graphic design, advertising, photography and art/illustration.
