HACC Leads the Way with Apple^® Programming Curriculum
 
HARRISBURG, Pa. – HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, is one of the first community colleges in the country to offer a coding curriculum based on Apple^®’s Swift programming language. Classes will be held this spring at HACC’s Harrisburg Campus and online.
 
In the new “Application Development with Swift” class at HACC, students will learn practical coding skills that will prepare them for work in an app development job setting. The class culminates with students prototyping and building a functional app of their own design.
 
Students who have a limited or no foundational knowledge of programming may take an introductory course that will also be offered this spring.   
 
Vic Rodgers, associate provost for Workforce Development and Continuing Education at HACC, said, “We are excited about supporting this innovative new program because it fits with HACC’s determination to be forward-facing in how we view the technology and industry needs of the future. The digital native, who has had access to data their entire life, will feel right at home on our HACC campuses. For those who have not had as much exposure, what a wonderful opportunity for growth!”

Modern Dance Meets Jazz at HACC’s Live at Rose Lehrman
 
HARRISBURG, Pa. – Internationally renowned company Lehrer Dance will showcase athleticism, excitement and fluidity through combinations of modern and jazz dance, Jan. 31, 2018, at Live at Rose Lehrman on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
 
Under the direction of Jon Lehrer, the New York-based professional dance company fosters choreography that is organic, artistic, accessible and often humorous, reflecting life experiences and the human condition.
 
The Lehrer Dance style is based on three main elements of movement: circularity, three-dimensionality and momentum, which combines to create a form that is best described as “organically athletic.” Lehrer’s approach integrates the fluidity of modern dance with the excitement and energy of jazz dance.

Local Artist Displays ‘Flesh and Spirit’ at HACC
 
HARRISBURG, Pa. – “Flesh and Spirit,” an exhibit of modern sculptures by local artist Ted Prescott, will be on display Jan. 22- Feb. 16, 2018, in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
 
Prescott will discuss his work Feb. 15 at 5:30 p.m. in Whitaker Hall, Room 214. A reception will immediately follow in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery. Both the artist’s lecture and reception are free and open to the public.
 
The forms and structure of Prescott’s work are related to modernist sculpture; however, his subject matter often draws on the beliefs and ideas found in the Christian tradition.
 
The artist utilizes a balance of traditional materials like stone, wood and metals combined with unconventional materials like coal, honey and salt to breathe life into his work.
 
Prescott, a sculptor and writer who lives and works near Harrisburg, has exhibited in the United States and Europe and has completed several public commissions.
 
In 1980, Prescott implemented the art major at Messiah College in Grantham. He chaired the art program for a decade, was the recipient of two successive five-year terms as a distinguished professor of art and is currently an emeritus professor of art at Messiah.
 
Gallery hours for this exhibit are Thursdays from 5-7 p.m. or by appointment.
 
HACC art galleries receive state arts funding support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
