Owen Butler Photography Exhibit Coming to HACC

HARRISBURG, Pa. – An exhibit of photography by Owen Butler will be on display Sept. 11- Oct. 11, 2017, in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
 
The artist will discuss his work on Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. in the Rose Lehrman Arts Center Auditorium Theatre, with a reception immediately following in the gallery. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.
 
Over the last 40 years, Butler has had 40 group and one-person shows at venues including the George Eastman Museum, Rochester, New York; Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Pratt Institute, Aperture Foundation for the Visual Arts / Burden Gallery, all New York; and the Museum of Image and Sound, São Paulo, Brazil.
 
Butler serves as a consultant for Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester and Serbin Communications in Santa Barbara, California. He is on the Advisory Boards of Photographer’s Forum magazine and HACC’s Photography Program.
 
Butler earned two degrees from the Rochester Institute of Technology’s (RIT) School of Photographic Arts and Sciences and later became a professor at RIT, where he has taught for over 45 years. He served as long­time chair of the Applied Photography Department and the Military Photojournalism Program. In 2004, RIT announced the prestigious Owen Butler Photography Scholarship.

Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-7 p.m. or by appointment. 
 
The gallery received state arts funding through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and from the National Endowment for the Arts.
