Black Lives Matter Statement

Approved by the Faculty Senate Cabinet on June 10, 2020
June 22, 2020
The elected faculty of the Faculty Senate Cabinet (FSC) of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, raise our voices on behalf of all faculty at the College when we say, “Black Lives Matter.”

We acknowledge a pervasive, national culture of explicit and implicit rules and language that disadvantage black, indigenous and people of color in education access, employment consideration, access to healthcare, housing opportunities and building of wealth.

We recognize racism is systemic and that institutional racism exists in every institution.

We insist that all HACC faculty integrate topics that consciously address race in their courses and that the College train faculty to help them do so. We request that faculty who are not interested in this leave the College.

We insist that faculty seek out professional development opportunities to learn to be anti-racist and recognize implicit biases. We request that the College financially support these efforts.

We commit to rooting out and eliminating hidden biases within our own curricula. We commit to infusing our curricula with a greater depth and breadth of inclusion.

We commit to listening to our students of color and responding to what they need in order to feel welcomed in an inclusive environment.
