“HACC is a game changer in the Central PA region, as it has fostered numerous successful individuals, via a quality yet affordable education.”

Dante Swinton was drawn to HACC by the “genuine interest shown by its faculty and their commitment to providing a quality education.” He graduated in 2001 with an associate degree in liberal arts and currently works as a supervisor at Comcast.

Dante said that scholarships he earned through the HACC Foundation helped him afford books, supplies and transportation while he was a HACC student. This financial support was especially important, because he was the sole provider for a family of three.

“Being visually impaired, there have been several challenges most would consider to be road blocks,” Dante said. “These challenges would include enduring abnormally long commutes to get to work or school, due to transportation restraints. Learning classroom, workshop, or employee training material was a challenge, as many times trainings were not prepared for visually impaired individuals, and accommodations were not timely.”

These “road blocks” did not stop Dante from earning his HACC degree and starting a career, which makes us #HACCproud!

For individuals thinking about college, Dante has shares this piece of advice: “Consider the faculty to student ratio, in addition to the reputation the institution has in its immediate and surrounding communities.”
