Dr. Michael Klunk, Dean of the Lancaster Campus of the Harrisburg Area Community College, was appointed to the Workforce Investment Board of Directors by the Lancaster Board of County Commissioners.

The Lancaster County Investment Board's mission is to develop and maintain an effective and responsive system of programs and services that integrates the needs of employers-an ample and productive workforce-with the needs of Lancaster County residents-meaningful work that enhances quality of life.

Dr. Klunk joins the Workforce Investment Board to work with members on workforce development in Lancaster County. He will be involved in the effort to meet emerging needs of current and prospective Lancaster County businesses, particularly with the skill development in high demand occupational skills that meet the needs of the local employers. Equal access for all Lancaster residents to education and employment is also part of the Workforce Investment Board's goals.

"It's quite an honor to represent higher education on the Workforce Investment Board," says Dr. Klunk of his appointment. "We want to have education and training in place that will allow Lancaster business and industry to stay competitive and profitable. The work of this Board will help attract partners, build alliances, and coordinate resources that will ultimately make Lancaster County a center of growth and progress."

This past summer, Dr. Klunk led the completion a successful move of HACC's entire Lancaster Campus from its former Burle Industries location to a new, $16 million, campus facility on Old Philadelphia Pike in East Lampeter Township. Campus enrollment increased 30% this fall semester, compared to fall 2000, with 2,072 full and part-time students.
