Local printmaker Dorothea Barrick will present her original prints at an exhibit at the Gettysburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College. Her exhibit begins October 24 and continues to December 15. Barrick's exhibit focuses on "Various Techniques of Printmaking" and incorporates one-of-a-kind monotype prints, etchings - some of which are hand painted, transfer prints, and chine coll'e or mixed media prints.

A reception to meet the artist is scheduled for Thursday, October 27, from noon to 1 pm at the Gettysburg Campus, 731 Old Harrisburg Road. The exhibit and reception are open to the community.

"Monotype printmaking allows the painterly stroke and veiling of color while incorporating textural objects within the surface of the print," said the artist. "My process in printmaking combines years of expressionist painting with the layering and manipulation of the printing process. Rolling out the ink and working into the matrix of the plate reveals new avenues of visual thinking."

Barrick, who lives in Carroll Valley, is well known for her artistic endeavors in Pennsylvania and Maryland. She established the art program at Mount Saint Mary's University and has taught classes at Goucher College, Frederick Community College, Hood College, and HACC. She has served as an artist-in-residence and has presented printmaking workshops at Gettysburg College and other schools, colleges and arts programs throughout the region.

Barrick's works have been featured in one-person shows in Gettysburg, and at Maryland galleries in Bethesda, Essex, Frederick, Hagerstown, and Salisbury, as well as in Washington, DC and Rehoboth, Delaware. She has also exhibited throughout the region in a wide range of juried and group exhibitions. Her work is in numerous collections including Lehigh University, John Hopkins University, Women in the Arts Museum in Washington, D.C. and Kala Institute of Printmaking, Berkeley, California.

The printmaking exhibit at HACC is open during HACC's regular business hours, 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Fridays. HACC-Gettysburg Campus is located at the North Gettysburg Center, 731 Old Harrisburg Road, near Weis Markets and Adams County National Bank. For more information, call HACC-Gettysburg at 337-3855.
